Professor Satish Ogale has joined as Director of the new Research Institute for Sustainable Energy (RISE).
RISE was started by The Chatterjee Group in Kolkata as part of their ‘Centre for Research and Education in Science and Technology (CREST)’ initiative, which is a not-for-profit section 25 company to promote higher education and research in India, with the ultimate goal of establishing a research university. Alongside sustainable energy, RISE will investigate other areas such as AI and data science, quantum computing, and life sciences.
RISE will also be developing international collaborations, starting with a tri-institutional collaboration between RISE, UC Berkeley, and IISER Pune.
Prof Ogale is a key member of the SUNRISE network. Currently an Emeritus Professor of Physics at IISER Pune, his career has spanned 40 years. During this time he has published over 400 research papers in internationally refereed journals, and 50 students have completed their PhDs under his supervision.
